Hailing from the sunny lands of St. Petersburg, FL, Nalij (or Knowledge) has made rumblings in the music industry since the turn of the millennium. However, his journey to the established rapper/musician he is today has been anything but conventional, with roles spanning artist management, record label ownership and even the enigmatic world of ghostwriting.
As the youngest of seven, Nalij’s soundscape was painted via the vibrant strokes of East-coast hip-hop, Miami bass music, R&B soul, electric Blues, gospel and classic soul. His diverse taste in music would eventually evolve into a musical palette that would define his unique sound.
Nalij’s lyrical odyssey began with poetry, a testament to his insatiable appetite for flow, wordplay and rocking different cadence’s. A self-professed bookworm, Nalij would look up words he didn’t know in the dictionary and use his expanded vocabulary/poetry prowess to craft verses for school crushes. That metamorphosis would eventually lead to songwriting while embarking on a career in the music industry.
Immersed in the late 80s to 90s rap era of storytelling and inspired by the likes of Tupac and Scarface, Nalij’s ability to compose vivid narratives based on reality as well as infectious party anthems made him a standout. Tracks like the gritty single “Cold Word” serve as an aggregate with its compelling, no holds barred lyrics set to a haunting, but captive backdrop. While another track, the bumping “Rich Feel”, stands out as a ghetto soliloquy to the street life. More recently, Nalij has teamed up with Tampa, FL, rapper Kantshes on the single, "Who Knew", a love opus that features rich storytelling and slick verses from both emcees.
With versatility serving as his forte, Nalij’s mission is clear: to be a well-rounded artist, creating music that resonates with the hearts and minds of a multitude. “I hope to make listeners think, open their eyes and feel what I’m saying when it comes to my more conscious tracks,” says Nalij. “From the party tracks, I just want them to live in the moment, celebrate and have a good time.”
Taking on an unapologetic look at the urban landscape, while also creating music that resonates with the ladies epitomizes Nalij as a musical craftsman who can forge a harmonious synthesis of street wisdom, raw emotions and seductive rhythms. And with that combo, you can count on him being around for a very long time.
